  2. Excalibur has its roots in a software engineering course at
  3. Bucknell University in the spring semester of 1990. Rob Gottshall
  4. and Rick Zaccone produced the current version using the original
  5. application as a base.
  6. 
  7. Version 1.1 was produced in February 1992.  We have rewritten 
  8. substantial portions of version 1.0.
  9. 
  10. Some new features include:
  11. 
  12. • User defined dictionaries now work.
  13. 
  14. • Many improvements to the user interface.
  15. 
  16. • LaTeX/TeX command recognizer completely rewritten. LaTeX
  17. command recognition is now excellent. Plain TeX command
  18. recognition is good. The syntax of plain TeX is difficult to
  19. parse. We are not sure how much the plain TeX recognition will
  20. improve in the future, but please send us information about any
  21. problems you have.

  23. • Excalibur knows about accented characters and ligatures.
  24. 
  25. • Excalibur will optionally ignore text in the \tt font.
  26. 
  27. • Excalibur will now warn you if it thinks it found a LaTeX
  28. syntax error in a file.
  29. 
  30. • Excalibur is considerably faster than version 1.0.

  32. Version 1.0 was produced in May 1990.
